El Valle de Antón Day Trip Guide

5 min read

A charming town inside the crater of an extinct volcano, just 45 minutes from Buenaventura. Markets, waterfalls, hot springs, and the famous Panamanian golden frog.

What to See & Do

Artisan market: Sundays are the big day — Ngäbe-Buglé crafts, orchids, tropical fruits, local coffee, and straw hats. Weekdays have stalls but less variety. Waterfalls: El Macho (most impressive, with canopy zip-line $15) and Chorro de Las Mozas (quieter, perfect for swimming). Hot springs: Natural hot water pools ($5 entry) are perfect for relaxing after a hike. Nature: El Níspero zoo houses the famous Panamanian golden frog (endangered), and the butterfly garden has hundreds of tropical butterflies. Hiking: Cerro La India Dormida offers spectacular panoramic views (2-3 h round trip, moderate difficulty).
⏱️

A full day is enough to see everything. Leave at 8 AM to enjoy the market and return at sunset.
