Santa Librada Patron Saint Festival

July · 1 week (around July 20th) Las Tablas, Los Santos province

The Santa Librada Patron Saint Festival is the most important celebration in Las Tablas, the capital of Los Santos province and epicenter of Panamanian folklore tradition. Held every July around July 20th (the patron saint's day), these festivals attract tens of thousands of visitors for a week of non-stop celebration. The event is famous for spectacular pollera parades where hundreds of women showcase dresses costing thousands of dollars, complemented by elaborate gold jewelry and the emblematic pearl tembleques in their hair. Panamanian-style bullfights (where participants run with bulls without harming them) are another beloved tradition that fills the town square each night. Típica music with accordion, drums, and caja drum sets the rhythm of the nights, while fireworks competitions between the Calle Arriba and Calle Abajo neighborhoods create a festive rivalry similar to Carnival. Local cuisine shines with dishes like arroz con pollo, sancocho, chicheme, and tamales from street fondas.
